Amersham Sonographers provide a private ultrasound scanning service based at Amersham General Hospital.

Nuchal Translucency Scan & Early Anomaly scan   at 11 weeks 3 days to 13 weeks   6 days

Screening for Chromosomal defects (e.g. Down's syndrome) from 11  weeks 3 days to 13 weeks  6 days.

This is done by measuring the thickness of the fluid space at the back of the baby's neck (Nuchal) & combining it with maternal age & length of the foetus (crown rump length).

These measurements are computed to give a  risk  factor for Down's syndrome. This is given in a figure and helps determine whether your baby is high or low risk. Generally the cut off is 1:300 , but this is very much a personal decision.

About 80% of Down's babies will be picked up with this test. If the risk is high you may decide after discussion with your Midwife & Consultant to have invasive testing (Amniocentesis or CVS). This will give you a definitive answer, to determine whether your baby has a Chromosomal abnormality or not.

In addition to this we can show the following:

We will be happy to give you a photo of your baby.
